How to check SERP position

In this article I will explain what the SERP is and how to check one properly.

No, this is not some ad for some SERP position check tool. There are many tools with this "capability" on the Net, but according to my experience neither one is working.

According to wikipedia this is the definition of SERP:

A search engine results page (SERP), is the listing of web pages returned by a search engine in response to a keyword query. The results normally include a list of web pages with titles, a link to the page, and a short description showing where the keywords have matched content within the page. A SERP may refer to a single page of links returned, or to the set of all links returned for a search query.

... and you are interested in Google's SERP right?
So, all you need is Google... It is the most accurate, and the fastest.. Just one thing is a drawback, instead of a single click you might need more ...

Here's what you do
- open google
- click advanced search (on the right)
- under Find web pages that have...
- under all these words ...
- type in the keyword you are checking SERP for
- under Need more tools?
- under Results per page:
- pick 100 results
- click advance search button
- on the page of results (which contains now 100 results) search for your web address - for example ctrl+F (control - find or edit find)
- if you cannot find your page , look further, click next at the bottom and you will be on the next page, with results 101 - 200 ...
- THIS IS THE BEST WAY OF CHECKING SERP

For example I just started Tower Defense site , and what I do ... for a search keyword I type in tower defense or tower defence... when first 100 results show up, I search on the page for http://www.towerdefense-247.com ... I can choose any keyword I like...

This way you can check your position if if its on 1000 th page, although those SERP tools usually won;t let you go that far.

Hope this helps

Cheers
